Curfew imposed in Barahathawa

Barahathawa

Kathmandu, January 7

The district administration has continued to impose a curfew in Barahathawa in Sarlahi.

A clash between police and protestors escalated on Sunday following the death of a man in Barahathawa, on Friday. The situation turned volatile as locals pelted stones at both the Barahathawa area police office and the residence of Mayor Kalpana Kumari Katwal.

Sarlahi Police Spokesperson DSP Dipendra Singh Tharu reported that the police used eight rounds of tear gas to disperse the protestors.

Jaishankar Sah, owner of Sarlahi Hotel and a wholesaler of chicken feed, succumbed to a gunshot during a demonstration regarding the upgrade of the primary health centre in Barhathwa-6 on Friday.

Relatives and locals have declined to claim his body. On Sunday morning, discussions took place between the families of the protestors, the deceased, and the district administration office at the local police office. However, during the discussions, protestors outside began pelting stones.

The curfew was imposed from Friday and Saturday. It was lifted briefly on Sunday morning and the district has decided to impose it again after a clash between protestors and police.
