Kathmandu, July 11

The CPN-Maoist Centre is in a meeting to discuss the possibilities of forming a national consensus government.

At the meeting underway at the Lazimpat residence of party Chair Prachanda, the participants will discuss formation of a consensus government and a nine-point agreement reached with the CPN-UML, among others.

At Sunday’s meeting of the party, leaders said any political equation that seeks to replace the KP Sharma Oli-led government should create an environment for the fulfillment of the Maoist party’s agendas.

Ministers representing the Maoist party in the government, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Haribol Gajurel and Shakti Bahadur Basnet, aired their views at the meeting. Education Minister Giri Raj Mani Pokharel is yet to air his views whereas another Minister Agni Sapkota was not present at Sunday’s meeting. The meeting had decided to hold decisive talks with the leadership of the CPN-UML, which holds leadership position in the Oli government. Prachanda and other leaders of the Centre, including Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, had gone to PM’s Official Residence in Baluwatar in the evening for a meeting.

The Maoist party has been saying that it had reached with the UML a three-point gentleman’s understanding aside from the nine-point deal. It says the UML should make way for a national government as per the understanding.
