Couple killed in another Sindhupalchok landslide

Kathmandu, August 3

Two persons have died in a landslide in Panchpokhari of the Sindhupalchok district in the wee hours of Monday.

The victims have been identified as Yagya Bahadur Chhetri and his wife, Laxmi, residents of Baruwa, Panchpokhari Thangpal rural municipality-2. The local government’s chief Tasi Lama says the couple died after being buried by the landslide at around 2 am today.

The couple’s three children remained safe as they were not at the house during the disaster.

Lama says incessant rainfall triggered landslides in various places of the rural municipality last night. “Courtyards of many houses have caved in whereas some cattle have been buried,” Lama informs, “The entire rural municipality has been hard hit by the landslides.”

Meanwhile, five among eight missing workers missing after a landslide in Melamchi-11 of the district have been found dead this morning.
