Constitution amendment: Ruling alliance killing time, says Kamal Thapa

Janakpur, August 2

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa has accused the Nepali Congress and the Maoist Centre of killing time by not putting the constitution amendment bill to vote.

Thapa, who was speaking at a programme in Janakpur on Wednesday, said his party has already decided to vote in favour of the amendment bill. He added that the Nepali Congress did not want the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal to contest the elections as it wants to retain its stronghold in Madhesh.

Thapa criticised the RJPN for making the amendment issue a matter of prestige. The amendment will not address the party’s main demands, he added.

He also warned that separatist forces would get stronger if the Madhesh issued were not addressed on time.
