Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Wednesday asked leaders of the Madheshi Morcha and Federal Alliance whether they are supporting him in his bid to amend the Constitution. All Morcha and FA partners, save Upendra Yadav’s party, have asked Prachanda to move ahead with the Constitution Amendment Bill.

On Wednesday morning, Prachanda held talks with FA leaders after the main opposition CPN-UML made it clear that it will oppose the amendment bid. At the Baluwatar meeting, Prachanda, who is also chair of the CPN-Maoist Centre, pointed he will land in soup if the Morcha also refuses to support his amendment bid. He asked the attending leaders: Why should I register the proposal in such a situation?

It is my duty to register the amendment proposal as per a three-point understanding, he pointed, warning that he will register an amendment proposal in line with his own agenda if the Morcha also does not support the amendment bid.

According to a leader, Prachanda informed at the meeting that the government is preparing for amendment by focusing on four issues.

On their part, most of the Morcha and FA leaders asked Prachanda to register the amendment proposal. A Morcha leader told Onlinekhabar that they have pledged to strive for an understanding once the proposal is registered.

Meanwhile, Federal Socialist Forum vice-chair Rajendra Shrestha has said amendment will not be acceptable to his party if it sticks to the seven-province federal model.
