Kathmandu, January 1
The Nepali Congress, a major ruling coalition partner, is set to appoint focal persons to expedite the passage of bills under consideration in Parliament. The party has called on members of parliamentary committees currently engaged in clause-by-clause discussions on the bills.
Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire stated that discussions will involve senior leaders. “We plan to hold a meeting from 11 am to 5 or 6 pm to assess the status of the bills and determine the way forward,” Ghimire told Onlinekhabar.
He added that the party intends to establish a clear stance on pending bills and coordinate with the government’s leading party, CPN-UML. The two ruling parties aim to form a unified position and engage with other parties for further discussions.
The upcoming winter session of parliament will prioritise passing all pending bills, Ghimire said. The government has proposed convening the session in the final week of January.
Ahead of the session, the ruling coalition is working to finalize positions on key bills. If consensus cannot be reached, the parties plan to pass the bills through a majority vote. Both the Nepali Congress and UML have decided to designate focal persons to facilitate this process.
The UML has already appointed five focal persons on Tuesday, while the Nepali Congress is expected to finalise its appointments on Wednesday.
