Nepali Congress Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha has proposed hiking daily ‘meeting’ allowances of lawmakers.
Taking part in discussions on a Bill on Lawmakers Pay and Perks, Shrestha said daily allowance of Rs 500 is simply not enough for lawmakers.
Shrestha said he put forth this proposal after discussions with major political parties.
He said: The Bill has proposed daily allowance of Rs 500. Let’s add Rs 500 more.
With expenses of parliamentary committee meetings cut of late, we do not even have ‘special tea’, Shrestha lamented.
Pay and perks meant for lawmakers are simply insufficient, Shrestha said, adding: Whoever doesn’t need the hike can return it. But a majority of lawmakers are in favour of a hike.
