Lilamani Poudel, the government nominee for the position of Nepal’s Ambassador to China, said on Wednesday he had accepted the government offer for the implementation of agreements Nepal reached with China when KP Sharma Oli was Nepal’s Prime Minister.

He said the agreements will help take Nepal-China relations to new heights.

Speaking during the confirmation hearing of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Wednesday, Poudel said: I accepted the government offer (to become Nepal’s Ambassador to China) because agreements that Nepal reached during then PM Oli’s visit to China are important.

There’s this tendency to see Nepal going against a certain country when it improves its relations with China or reaches any deal with it

He said these deals can take Nepal-China relations to new heights.

The agreements have the capacity to boost bilateral ties, Poudel said, adding: We have become aware of these possibilities.

Nepal and China are two independent countries and they can reach deals on matters of mutual interest. We don’t need to ask any other country before signing such deals

Nepal’s tourism sector can benefit immensely from China, he said, adding that we have not been able to do so thus far. There’s a need to facilitate easy travel, market promotion and identify new destinations to reap benefits, Poudel said.
