Several individuals injured during the Generation-Z protests are undergoing treatment at the Trauma Center in Kathmandu.
Senior neurosurgeon Dr Rajiv Jha, speaking after completing his morning rounds on Wednesday, said that around 10–12 surgeries were performed on Tuesday alone. “Rubber bullets were removed from seven patients, and their wounds have been cleaned,” he said, adding that those patients are now on medication and antibiotics.
According to Dr Jha, some of the injured had sustained gunshot wounds near the stomach and liver, but their condition has gradually stabilised after surgery. The hospital reported that 11 patients are in critical condition, with five currently in the intensive care unit (ICU).
However, one severely injured protester has suffered paralysis after being shot in the spine. Doctors are preparing to perform surgery on the patient.
Of the eight protesters admitted to the Trauma Center, four had injuries near the heart, while others sustained wounds to the head and neck. The center has begun transferring patients in stable condition to general wards.
Dr Jha noted that the Trauma Center is currently operating at near full capacity, making it challenging to manage new cases. “We are on alert around the clock. Bir Hospital has also been kept ready in case more patients arrive,” he said.
