CIAA probing Nepal Police procurement documents of past two years

File: Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA)

Kathmandu, October 24

Sources at the country’s constitutional anti-corruption body, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), say they are investigating into all procurement documents of the Nepal Police Headquarters of the past two years.

The commission had collected the documents from the headquarters around one month ago. It has been learned that the commission brought the documents to its office after it received two complaints claiming irregularities in the purchase of various goods including boots, uniforms and vehicles.

The CIAA chief Navin Ghimire himself is looking into the case, but he has not been able to expedite the investigation, claims a former CIAA commissioner. “If the commission had wished so, the investigation would have moved far ahead. But I don’t know why it is stalled now.”

Meanwhile, sources at the police headquarters claim Nepal Police has not been involved in any irregularities since incumbent IG Sarbendra Khanal took over the leadership in April 2018.
