Biska jatra chariot to be pulled in the afternoon

Kathmandu, April 5

The chariot procession of Bhaktapur’s Biska Jatra will take place in the afternoon this year.

Bhaktapur’s mayor Sunil Prajapati says the decision was taken to make sure the festival concludes in a peaceful manner.

Every year hundreds of people get injured during the nine-day-long festival. Stakeholders agreed to the changes as they felt that a wrong message was being portrayed during the festival.

The chariot was pulled during the evening because rituals took a long time to complete. However, this year Prajapati has said necessary steps have been taken to ensure the chariot is pulled around 2 pm.

As people under the influence of alcohol are the ones creating a scene, Bhaktapur Municipality has asked Nepal Police to keep a watchful eye on all liquor shops.
