Bill proposes restricting rights to monitor development projects to PM only

KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, May 27

Amid the criticisms that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is bringing all the power centred around him, a new bill has been introduced citing that the PM will monitor and direct all development projects.

The government tabled the Bill on Monitoring and Evaluation during the National Assembly meeting on Tuesday. The bill proposes a high-level committee under the leadership of prime minister.

As per the bill, the PM will be entitled to the rights to brief, direct, resolve any inter-ministry or policy-level problems, and also probe into the progress and efficiency of the projects.

The monitoring committee will have to appoint a third-party group or individual without direct or indirect interest for evaluation of the projects. The reports and findings have to be made public on websites of the projects.

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe commented that the bill was introduced to maintain transparency in development projects, and increase responsibility and accountability among the government officials.
