Biggest gold haul: Man held with 88 kg yellow metal from downtown Kathmandu

Kathmandu, September 4

A Nepal Police official says police personnel have arrested a man in possession of 88 kg gold from Chhetrapati of downtown Kathmandu this morning.

This is said to be the biggest gold haul recorded in Nepal ever.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner AIG Jaya Bahadur Chand says Manoj Adhikari was arrested after the precious yellow metal was found in the Storm jeep he was driving.

After receiving a tip-off, police had kept an eye on the vehicle since last night.

It has been suspected that the gold was smuggled into Nepal from China via Kerung border point.

Further investigation is underway.
