Bhutan welcomes withdrawal of troops from Doklam

Kathmandu, August 29

Bhutan’s government has welcomed the announcement of China and India on Monday to start disengagement from Doklam, where armies of the two countries were involved in a standoff.

“Bhutan welcomes the disengagement by the two sides at the face-off site in the Doklam area,” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thimpu said in a statement.

“We hope this contributes to the maintenance of peace and tranquility and status quo along the borders of Bhutan, China and India in keeping with the existing agreements between the respective countries.” it said.
