Bhutan-donated 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrive in Nepal

Bhutan delivers 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to Nepal, in Kathmandu, on Friday, August 6, 2021.

Kathmandu, August 6

Bhutan has delivered 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to Nepal as a gift.

The landlocked country that has already vaccinated most of the citizens against the disease sent the vaccines on a Druk Air aircraft to the Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday morning.

The vaccines are expected to aid nearly 1.4 million people who received the first dose of the Covishield, an AstraZeneca type but are waiting for the second dose. Most of them are people above the age of 65.

The government plans to use Japan’s gift of 1.6 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines also for this group. The first half of Japanese assistance is expected to arrive in Kathmandu by Sunday.
