Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has appointed Prof Dr Bhola Thapa as the chancellor of the Kathmandu University.

Oli made the appointment on Wednesday at his capacity of the university’s ex-officio chancellor, according to Oli’s press advisor Surya Thapa.

Earlier, a selection committee led by Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha had suggested three names for the appointment. Other nominees were outgoing Vice-chancellor Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha and School of Education’s Bal Chandra Luitel. Over 40 people had applied for the position.

Dr Bhola Thapa is a former registrar of the university.

After completing his second term, Makaju Shrestha was struggling hard to get a reappointment. Although professors and staff in the institution have been protesting his bid to become reappointed again, he had expedited lobbying of late.
