Kathmandu, July 7

Bheri zonal police office has been conducting special operations against criminal activities in several districts of the zone for three months. Police have managed to nab Biplav Maoist cadres as well as CK Raut supporters.

Recently, police arrested 15 people from Raut’s outfit. The arrestees include outfit’s central spokesperson Abdul Khan and its Banke-Bardiya in-charge Irfan Shekh. Police caught them conducting suspicious activities in Mahendra Park of Banke district. Police found a minuting register, 285 pamphlets and one manifesto in their possession, SSP Dhiru Basnet informed.

About a month ago, police arrested Biplav Maoist cadres Ankit Bhattarai, Bharat Rawal and Chakra BC on the charge of torching a dozer kept at the house compound of Champa Lal Bothara, in Banke.

And about three weeks ago, police arrested 16 Biplav Maoist cadres, including Karna Bahadur Shahi, on the charge of torching NCell tower based in Shumshergunj of Banke.

Police said they rescued 24 women and 89 children from the clutches of traffickers, who were taking them to India through the open border.

The police office has stepped up monitoring along the border after getting information that traffickers were trying to take boys for employing them as domestic servants and push girls into flesh trade.

Basnet said: Criminal gangs are trying to traffick women and children misusing the open border. Zonal police office is intensifying activities to stop them.

About four months ago, police arrested Rijwan Sai (32) of Nepalgunj. Sai had been terrorising locals for quite long.

Sai, part of organised crime and a notorious kidnapper, was on police’s most wanted list.

He was the mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder of Liladhar Bhatta (16) and Kapil Dwivedi (16) from Nepalgunj, six years ago. The kidnappers had killed the two students after the families failed to pay on time ransom of five million rupees.

Bheri police are taking Sai’s arrest as a huge achievement.

Sai also had links with armed outfits active in the Tarai, Basnet said: Touting this link, he used to kidnap people. With Sai’s arrest, we now hope security situation will improve.

In the past three months, Bheri police have arrested 36 criminals on the run, Basnet informed.
