Bara, November 25

In their bid to press for the development of the much-talked Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track and the International Airport in Bara district, local youths have launched a symbolic fund collection campaign.

These youths have set out for Kathmandu on foot, appealing every Nepali to contribute one rupee for the development of these projects of national pride.

At the call of Struggle Committee for Construction of Fast Track and Airport, these youths are carrying small boxes with the message — invest Re 1 (for these projects) — written on them. Side by side, they have also initiated a signature collection campaign to presss for the development of these ambitious projects.

Committee coordinator Ravi Raj Dangal said: There has been much talk about development of these projects for so long, but construction work has not even begun. So, we are visiting villages, asking the people to contribute one rupee each.

He added that they will hand over the amount collected during the campaign along with signatures to leaders in Kathmandu.

The campaign, in its first phase, is receiving support from local people, political parties, industrialists and entrepreneurs, Dangal informed.

The campaigners are currently collecting signatures by visiting households in Nijgadh of Bara and different parts of Parsa and Rauthat districts.

We will stage a 100-day relay hunger strike, show documentaries at Rastriya Sabhagriha and hold interactions with stakeholders, among others, Dangal said.

The Prachanda-led government has scrapped the contract reached with IL&FS for the construction of the Fast Track and decided to build the same using domestic investment.
