Government to develop Kathmandu-Tarai fast track by mobilising domestic capital

Kathmandu-Nijagadh-Fast-Tra

Kathmandu, May 8

The government will build the 95-kilometre Kathmandu-Tarai fast track by mobilising domestic capital. Presenting the government’s policies and programmes for the fiscal 2073-74 in the Parliament on Sunday, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari made this announcement.

The government had planned to hand over the project construction work to an Indian company. But it changed its mind after the company made it clear that a huge budget will be required for the development of this ambitious project.

A proposal presented in 2008 put the cost of the project construction work at Rs 56 billion. In 2014, the estimated cost reached 96 billion rupees. Now, the project construction work is estimated at Rs 1.12 trillion.

It is estimated that the government can build the project with an investment of around Rs 80 billion.
