Baglung by-poll: NCP’s Gharti defies party order to withdraw candidacy

Kathmandu, November 10

Nepal Communist Party’s effort to stop its leader Sher Man Gharti from contesting the by-election for the post of Provincial Assembly member for Baglung – 2 (B) has failed.

The NCP, which has pledged its support to Rastriya Janamorcha, had asked Gharti not to contest the election. However, Gharti, going against the party, has put his name for the by-election due to take place in the country on November 30.

As soon as Gharti had filed candidacy, some senior NCP leaders had tried to convince him to withdraw it. In a last-ditch effort to cancel his candidacy, NCP leaders flew Gharti on a helicopter to Baglung Bazar on Sunday. However, Gharti has refused to do so.
