Azerbaijan seeks Nepal’s support in its fight against Armenia

Kathmandu, October 6

Azerbaijan has sought Nepal’s support in its ongoing conflict with its neighbour, Armenia.

Sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say the Azerbaijani embassy in New Delhi, which also looks after its relationships with Nepal, has written to the ministry and support in its fight for territorial integrity.

Further, it has argued that the conflict is affecting the regional peace and stability, therefore countries like Nepal must speak.

It has been learned that the Eurasian country has also sought support from other small South Asian countries.

Nepal is yet to make any response to the request.

Azerbaijan is the current leader of the Non-Aligned Movement whereas Nepal is a member. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had visited its capital Baku last year to take part in a NAM event.

For the past few weeks, the two neighbours are fighting for a mountainous region known as Nagorno-Karabakh. Currently, Armenia has taken control over the land.
