One day after two children lost their lives after falling into a water pit dug by a brick kiln in the Sarlahi district of southeastern Nepal, another similar incident has happened in the district on Thursday.

The latest victim is Alex Yonjan, 6, the son of Devraj Yonjan, a permanent resident of Kavre. Alex was staying at Partatole, Bagmati municipality-6 of the district with his maternal uncle Chandra Bahadur Tamang’s family.

Locals had rescued the child and took him to a health facility in Barahathawa, but the doctors declared him dead, informs Madan Kunwar, the District Police Office spokesperson.

Of late, children drowning has become a regular affair in Nepal due to the lack of safety measures, insufficient recognition of the problem, and children’s inability to swim among other reasons.
