All poll results within one week, assures CEC Yadav

Kathmandu, May 17

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has assured that final results of the first phase of local level elections held on last Sunday will be published within one week.

Of late, the Election Commission has been criticised for its slow-paced counting.

Speaking with journalists at the Reporter’s Club Nepal in the Capital today, Yadav said the Commission had already directed officials to expedite the counting and more counting desks would be added accordingly.

He, however, conceded that the pace had been slower than expected and attributed the delay to the large size of ballot papers.

“But why are not the people who stayed silent when the elections did not happen for 20 long years showing any patience for one more week now,” he questioned, “I am surprised.”

Meanwhile, Yadav said the Commission would learn from experiences of the Phase-I and improve counting after the second phase of local level elections scheduled for June 14.
