After 42 days of voting, provincial assembly elections are finally over now

Kathmandu, January 18

The Election Commission on Thursday formally announced winners of provincial assembly elections under the proportional representation category, concluding all tasks under the provincial legislature formation process.

The Commission has already announced winners of first-past-the-post system.

Though 42 days have already passed since the final phase of elections, the Commission was unable to announce the results as the government was yet to appoint province chiefs. The constitution requires the Commission to submit provincial assembly poll results to chiefs of respective provinces.

The government had recommended names for the province chiefs yesterday, paving way for the conclusion of provincial assembly elections.

Meanwhile, the Commission’s spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal says the Commission will issue election certificates to the provincial assembly members today itself.

The Commission is yet to formally announce final results of proportional representation elections for House of Representatives and it plans to do so after the elections of National Assembly, scheduled for February 7.
