A day after Oli-Nepal spat, Prachanda rues lack of discipline in party

Pushpa Kamal Dahal

Kathmandu, August 23

A day after the infamous Oli-Nepal spat, party co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal says NCP leaders are becoming undisciplined and everyone is making statements without thinking of the consequences.

Dahal, who was speaking at a programme on Friday, said that the party had come so far because its leaders were disciplined. “We were very disciplined in the past. That was the reason we have reached the position we are in. But these days, no one cares about discipline,” he added.

The former Prime Minister said that in the past, the leadership as a group would make decisions and everyone would be responsible for such a decision. But now, an individual makes a decision, and the whole group has to take responsibility, said Dahal. “This needs to be rectified, we cannot go on like this.”

Prachanda’s statement comes a day after NCP co-chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Nepal engaged in a verbal row. Similarly, NCP central committee leaders Surya Thapa and Ram Prasad Sapkota took to social media to criticise one another publicly.

The former rebel commander said that communists in Nepal are also taking up habits of royals. He argued that if the situation were to continue, then the people will drive away the same leaders who drove away monarchy; this was what happened in eastern Europe.
