Two elephants have been deployed by Shuklaphanta National Park after a tiger was spotted near a settlement in Imaliya, Ward 5 of Beldandi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur.
Bikram Chaudhary, a ranger at the national park, said locals had been urged to remain alert after the tiger was sighted in the area for the past four to five days.
“We installed cameras in the area to strengthen surveillance after the tiger began appearing repeatedly,” Chaudhary said. “The tiger was spotted on camera again last night, prompting us to deploy two elephants from Shuklaphanta.”
According to Chaudhary, the elephants were sent from Shuklaphanta Post inside the national park to drive the tiger away from the settlement and back towards the forest.
Nepal Army personnel deployed for the park’s security from Beldandi Post, along with national park staff, have also been mobilised in the area.
Officials have received reports that the tiger may be hiding in a sugarcane field, Chaudhary said.
Local residents have been advised to exercise caution while travelling through the area and to remain vigilant as efforts continue to move the tiger away from the settlement.
