Kathmandu, October 20

The Decision Review System (DRS) will be used in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced on social media on Tuesday that DRS will be used in the NPL this time.

CAN Secretary Paras Khadka had earlier said that efforts were under way to bring DRS to the NPL for the first time. He said testing of the technology with two companies had been completed and that a final decision would be made after evaluating its accuracy.

DRS is a popular technology that has come into increasing use in cricket in recent years. It gives teams the chance to review an umpire’s decision if they disagree with it or feel it was wrong. As a result, the bowling side can claim a wicket, while the batting side can have a dismissal overturned.

According to CAN, full 3D ball tracking will be used to review LBW decisions in the NPL. Run-outs, stumpings and no-balls will also be reviewable.

AI-based edge detection for contact with the bat will also be in place. Other bowling analytics will be available as well, including height-based wides and measurement of the length and height of sixes.
