Kathmandu, October 14
The monsoon has completely withdrawn from Nepal, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology announcing on Wednesday that it has exited all parts of the country.
According to the department’s Weather Forecasting Division, the monsoon began withdrawing from some western and northern parts of Nepal on October 4 and has now fully retreated.
Nepal’s monsoon normally begins on June 13 and withdraws by October 2. This year, it entered the country on June 19 and withdrew 12 days later than the average date.
Rainfall during the monsoon withdrawal period was around the average overall, although precipitation varied by geographical region. The Himalayan region received more rainfall than the Tarai and hill regions.
Meteorologists forecast generally sunny weather over the next few days following the monsoon’s complete withdrawal. While isolated rainfall remains possible at one or two places in the hilly regions, the overall forecast indicates sunny conditions during Dashain.
