Kathmandu, September 27
Meteorologists say the low-pressure area near Uttar Pradesh, India, is gradually weakening, which will cause rainfall activity in Nepal to decrease progressively. Still, rain is forecast across various parts of the country this afternoon, with heavy rain expected in only one or two locations.
According to meteorologist Sanjib Adhikari of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s forecasting division, the low-pressure system positioned south of Nepal’s Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces has concentrated rainfall activity in those areas. Combined with moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal that moved toward central Nepal overnight, this caused heavy overnight rain in several parts of central Nepal.
Adhikari said the low-pressure system is now gradually weakening, though some residual rain activity is expected today. With continued moisture from the Bay of Bengal, clouds have also formed over Madhesh, Bagmati, and the western part of Koshi Province, raising rain chances there too. Western Nepal remains cloudy in many places, but no major rainfall is currently occurring there.
Heavy rain expected around Chitwan and Gandaki
Adhikari said moderate rain is expected this afternoon across many mountainous, hilly, and Tarai areas of Sudurpashchim Province, with comparatively less rain in eastern Koshi Province. Rain is expected to continue across areas from Karnali eastward to Madhesh, though heavy rain is unlikely in most places, except possibly one or two locations.
He said heavy rain remains possible in one or two spots in Madhesh Province, the lower Bagmati region and around Chitwan, the lower and hilly areas of Gandaki, mountainous regions, the southern part of Lumbini Province, and parts of Sudurpashchim’s mountains, hills, and Tarai.
However, Adhikari said heavy rain is unlikely tonight, and overall weather conditions are expected to improve significantly.
