Udayapur, October 14
An adult wild male elephant has been found dead in Dhankhet in Belaka Municipality-1.
The elephant, known as “Sano Dare” and aged around 20 to 25 years, was found dead in Dhankhet on Tuesday.
Gajendra Shrestha, chief of the Division Forest Office, Udayapur, said the wild elephant was found dead in Dhankhet, about one kilometre from the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.
According to him, the dead elephant had been living in the reserve area for more than a year.
Chief Shrestha said the preliminary assumption is that the elephant may have died of natural causes.
The actual cause of death will be known after a postmortem examination by the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.
He said that, as the elephant was found in the border area of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, the reserve will conduct the postmortem today.
