Kathmandu, October 8
Three ordinances recommended by the government have reached the President’s Office.
The ordinances arrived at around 5pm on Thursday, according to Krishna Bahadur Shahi, spokesperson for the President’s Office.
The Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday afternoon had recommended that President Ram Chandra Paudel issue the three ordinances.
According to government spokesperson Sasmita Pokharel, the ordinances seek to amend certain Nepal laws related to land, forests and disaster management.
The disaster-related ordinance has been proposed in response to the Bhotekoshi floods. It includes a provision to shorten the period for declaring missing persons dead in disaster-related cases. Under the existing law, a person missing for 12 years can be declared dead, while the proposed provision would allow a person to be declared dead after 45 days in cases related to disasters.
The ordinance amending land-related laws includes provisions to provide land to landless Dalits, squatters and unorganised settlers.
The provisions of the ordinances will come into effect once they are issued by the president.
Shahi said the ordinances had reached the President’s Office but had yet to be formally presented to the president.
“Three ordinances have arrived. They arrived at around 5pm today. They are yet to be presented to the president,” Shahi told Onlinekhabar.
