Kathmandu, October 6

The Nepal Tourism Board is set to install and operate traditional swings (linge ping) at various tourist destinations across the country during Dashain, linking Nepal’s traditional culture and festivals with tourism promotion.

The board’s Tourism Heritage and Tourism Development Division will install the swings in collaboration with local governments and tourism-related organisations, including in the Kathmandu Valley and other popular tourist destinations.

The board has partnered with Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Kirtipur Municipality, Changunarayan Municipality, Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee, Thamel Tourism Development Committee, Himalayan Rescue Association, Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), the Hotel Entrepreneurs Federation and hotel and tourism associations in various provinces.

Under the agreements, the linge ping will be constructed at selected tourist destinations and operated throughout the Dashain period. Priority will be given to locations with high tourist footfall and those suitable for cultural activities.

The agreements require the concerned local governments and organisations to ensure safety, manage crowds and take measures to minimise the risk of accidents while operating the swings.

They will also be responsible for removing the swings after Dashain and restoring the sites to their original condition.

The Tourism Board said the initiative aims to preserve and promote Nepal’s traditional culture and festivals while using them to further develop cultural tourism.
