Kathmandu, September 29
The search for people missing in the Himlung avalanche has been temporarily suspended, according to the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA).
The association said 12 kitchen staff members are still missing following the avalanche. The bodies of four people have so far been recovered.
An experienced search and rescue team led by the association was deployed immediately after the avalanche. The association said a massive avalanche at the Himlung Base Camp had covered the camp with snow up to 14 feet deep.
An eight-member rescue team led by Mingma G. carried out search and rescue operations despite the difficult conditions. However, the team has now suspended the operation as there is no longer a possibility of rescuing anyone alive from the avalanche.
The association said excavation work will resume depending on the condition of the snow and the mountain.
