The BP Highway, which had been closed since September 25 due to continuous rainfall, has reopened. However, only small vehicles are currently allowed to operate on the highway.
Suman Yogesh, chief of the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, said traffic resumed after temporary diversions were constructed at locations washed away by floods in the Roshi River.
According to him, floods in the Roshi River had washed away temporary diversions at Chaukidanda in Namobuddha-6, Ghumawane in Roshi-7, and Mamti in Roshi-11 and 12. Landslides had also occurred at Chaukidanda in Namobuddha-6, Charsaybesi in Roshi-7, Gimdibesi in Roshi-8 and Mamti in Roshi-11.
The Road Division Office said two diversions have been constructed at Chaukidanda—one across the river and another above the river.
The office said all types of vehicles are expected to resume normal operation from the afternoon. However, six-wheel cargo vehicles, buses and minibuses will have to wait for a few more hours before being allowed to operate.
