Rising Roshi River forces traffic halt on BP Highway

BP Highway

Kavrepalanchowk, June 9

Traffic on the BP Highway has been suspended due to rising water levels in the Roshi River, as a precautionary measure against potential risk.

According to Sub-Inspector Rabin Bista, information officer at the District Police Office, Kavre, heavy rainfall has been battering Banepa, Panauti, Dhulikhel, Namobuddha, and the upper reaches of the Roshi River since Tuesday afternoon.

The rainfall in the upper catchment area has caused the Roshi River to rise rapidly, increasing the danger. Citing safety concerns for passengers and vehicles, police have temporarily halted all types of vehicular movement on the Kavre section of the BP Highway.

A landslide has also occurred near Charsayabeshi along the Roshi corridor. Bista said the road will reopen only after the water level drops and the landslide debris at Charsayabeshi is cleared.

Vehicles heading through the highway are currently being held at Dhulikhel within the district and, in coordination with Sindhuli District, at Khurkot and Nepalthok.

Police have urged travellers to check on road conditions before setting out.
