Kavrepalanchok, November 2
The BP Highway has resumed operation after three days of closure, following the construction of diversions at Rosi-8 Charseybesi and Rosi-11 Piple in Kavrepalanchok.
According to Inspector Ishwar Karki, chief of the Mangalatar Area Police Office, the highway had been blocked for three days due to continuous rainfall since Thursday, which triggered landslides and mudslides at several points.
Traffic resumed around 11:45 am today after diversions were built at Piple and Charseybesi. Vehicular movement had been halted earlier near the Nangsāl Crusher area in Charseybesi because of frequent dry landslides from the slopes above. The highway was reopened after creating a diversion along the Rosi Riverbank.
Continuous rain had caused landslides at multiple locations along the BP Highway, including Chauki Danda, Nangsāl Crusher in Charseybesi, Bokshikuna, and Mamti, while mudslides had blocked the road at Narke, Pinthlibesi, Biruwadanda, Dalabesi, and other sections, completely halting traffic.
A diversion built below Mamti last month after the original road section was washed away had also been blocked by floodwater mixed with debris.
Although the new diversions have been completed, the administration has urged travelers to exercise caution due to potential dry landslides from the surrounding slopes and erosion along the Rosi Riverbanks.
Last year, heavy rainfall had washed away several sections of the BP Highway. Temporary diversions were constructed afterward to restore traffic, but those were again damaged by floods in the Rosi River during continuous rainfall recently.
