Efforts are underway to reopen the BP Highway, which has been blocked by landslides and flood-induced road erosion.
The highway was completely obstructed by landslides at Chaukidanda in Namobuddha-6, Charsaybesi in Roshi-7, Gimdi Besi in Roshi-8 and Mamti in Roshi-11.
The Roshi Khola has also washed away a diversion at Chaukidanda. Kavre Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari said various efforts were being made to reopen the highway, which has been obstructed at several points due to landslides and erosion caused by the Roshi River following recent rainfall.
He said efforts to clear the obstructions on the Khurkot-Bhaktundebesi section were ongoing and that the road could reopen from Tuesday afternoon. Although landslides have been cleared at some locations, more time may be needed in the Chaukidanda area, he said.
Adhikari said technicians from the Road Division Office had reported that the road had been extensively washed away by floods in the final section on the Kavre side under the Japanese-funded contract, and that the work could take until Tuesday to complete.
Chief District Officer Adhikari and representatives of the security agencies also conducted an on-site inspection of the blocked BP Highway.
