Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Karn has urged the government to provide relief to residents of Saptari affected by flooding and wild elephants.
Speaking during the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, Karn said more than 500 houses in Saptari had been inundated.
“Due to continuous rainfall over the past three days, farmers’ fields in Hanumannagar, Kankalini Municipality and Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality of Saptari have been inundated. More than 500 houses have been affected,” Karn said. “People are suffering. Similarly, crops planted by farmers in Kamalpur of Saptakoshi Municipality and Bastipur of Kanchan-Rup Municipality have been destroyed by elephant attacks. I urge the government to make arrangements for necessary relief and compensation.”
Karn praised the government for its work in Madhesh. He claimed that the government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah had initiated development-oriented politics in the province.
He said the government was working on the Kamala-Kanchanpur road and preparing to operate the Ram Raja Prasad Singh Health Sciences Academy, a medical college and an engineering college.
