Kathmandu, September 27
Continuous rainfall has disrupted road transportation in six districts of Karnali Province after landslides and debris blocked several road sections.
According to the Provincial Police Office, the Karnali Highway has been obstructed by a landslide at Gagane Khola in Shubhakalika Rural Municipality-1 of Kalikot.
The Rapti Highway has also been blocked after landslides occurred at Kharkhola in Kapurkot Rural Municipality-1 and at Aringale in Wards 3 and 4 of the rural municipality in Salyan.
Police said the Jumla-Nagma section of the Karnali Highway has been obstructed by a landslide at Ranka in Tatopani Rural Municipality-1 of Jumla.
Several sections of Karnali Corridor affected
The Karnali Corridor has been affected at several points. A landslide and mudflow blocked the road at Khachcha in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-1 of Humla, disrupting the Karnali Corridor. Police said the accumulation of mud and debris on the road has affected transportation.
Similarly, the Nagma-Gamgadhi road has been obstructed by a landslide along the Pina-Talcha section in Wards 7 and 8 of Chhayanath Rara Municipality in Mugu. The road section is also part of the Karnali Corridor.
Police said transportation services have also been affected along several road sections in Jajarkot due to continuous rainfall.
The ongoing rainfall has increased the risk of landslides, mudflows and road erosion in hilly areas, affecting the movement of passengers and vehicles.
Karnali Province Police said coordination is underway with the concerned authorities to clear the blocked roads.
Karnali Province Police spokesperson SSP Santosh Singh Rathore said authorities are assessing the condition of roads affected by the rainfall and taking necessary steps to resume transportation.
