Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rubi Kumari has decided to donate one month’s salary toward the relief and rehabilitation of citizens affected by the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
Deputy Speaker Rubi Kumari has instructed the Administration Branch of the Federal Parliament Secretariat to deposit her one-month salary into the Government of Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Her secretariat said the contribution was made with the aim of supporting relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected citizens.
Earlier, lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and Nepal Communist Party had written to the Parliament Secretariat requesting that specific amounts be deducted from their salaries to support flood victims.
This includes 38 Nepali Congress lawmakers from the House of Representatives and 24 from the National Assembly.
Congress parliamentary party leader in the House of Representatives, Bhishma Raj Angdembe, will contribute one month’s salary. Congress lawmakers Ganga Laxmi Awal, Rukmini Devi Koirala, Prakash Singh Karki, and Mohan Acharya will each contribute one month’s salary as well.
Congress lawmaker Tek Bahadur Gurung will contribute Rs 100,000. Since one month’s salary wasn’t enough to cover that amount, he asked that his full salary for one month be deducted, with the remainder taken from the following month’s salary.
The remaining Congress lawmakers will each contribute 15 days’ salary.
CPN-UML lawmaker Mohammad Ishtiyak Rai has written to the Parliament Secretariat pledging one month’s salary. The rest of the UML lawmakers will contribute 15 days’ salary each.
UML has 25 lawmakers in the House of Representatives and 10 in the National Assembly.
Nepal Communist Party lawmakers have also pledged to contribute 15 days’ salary.
In its letter to the Parliament Secretariat, the Nepal Communist Party also noted that, in addition to its lawmakers, its personal staff would contribute 15 days’ salary toward flood relief as well.
The Nepal Communist Party has 17 lawmakers in each of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
