Home Minister Sudan Gurung left the Gen Z Memorial Park in Satdobato, Lalitpur, without inaugurating it after families of those killed during the Gen Z movement objected to the statues installed at the park.
Gurung had arrived at the swimming pool complex in Satdobato shortly before the scheduled inauguration of the park, which was built in memory of those who lost their lives during the Gen Z movement.
However, he returned without inaugurating the park after relatives of the martyrs expressed dissatisfaction with the statues, saying they did not resemble their loved ones.
The family members who had gathered for the inauguration objected to the statues, saying there had been negligence in their construction. “The statues do not resemble the martyrs who lost their lives during the movement. There was negligence in making the statues,” they said.
The Gen Z Memorial Park features statues of 45 people who were killed during the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9 last year. The park has been built on two ropanis of land within the swimming pool complex.
According to the government, it was designed to commemorate the martyrs and promote national identity and collective remembrance.
