Kathmandu, September 9
Kathmandu Valley is facing a severe shortage of cooking LPG gas after recent floods disrupted the supply system. The government, however, says it has made alternative arrangements to ensure adequate supply.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav has directed the concerned authorities to ensure that consumers have immediate access to cooking gas.
Under the directive, consumers in Kathmandu Valley who cannot obtain a cylinder from the company they normally use should be provided gas by exchanging their cylinder for one from another company at the same price.
The ministry said the measure has been introduced to immediately address supply disruptions caused by the floods and provide relief to consumers. The arrangement will, for the time being, apply only within Kathmandu Valley.
Minister Yadav has instructed the Nepal Oil Corporation and concerned LPG gas companies to implement the arrangement immediately and effectively.
She also warned that anyone found causing unnecessary hardship to consumers, creating artificial shortages or acting against government directives during the crisis would face strict legal action.
