Prime Minister Balen Shah held a meeting with Kulman Ghising, chairperson of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Singha Durbar on Thursday.
Ghising said he met Prime Minister Shah to share observations and recommendations based on his team’s field visits to flood-affected areas. “We met to provide suggestions on what we saw and understood during our field visits to various places in this disaster situation, and what needs to be done,” he said while leaving the Prime Minister’s Office.
A team led by Ghising provided the Prime Minister with recommendations on measures the government should take for rescue, relief and resettlement. “We have provided both written and verbal recommendations,” he said. “In the current disaster situation, we have provided the government with comprehensive suggestions, particularly on rescue, relief and resettlement.”
Ghising said Prime Minister Shah also asked how people trapped inside tunnels of hydropower projects could be rescued. “Primarily, they were concerned about how to rescue those trapped inside the tunnels,” he said. “We shared what we had learned and what needs to be done in this regard.”
After Ghising’s team briefed the prime minister on the measures needed to rescue those trapped inside the tunnels, Shah said the government would make every possible effort to carry out the rescue operation. “He said that the government would do whatever it takes in this regard. He said that no matter what the circumstances are, whatever resources and personnel need to be mobilised, they will be mobilised and the operation will be taken forward,” Ghising said.
