Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 184th batch of the Police Inspector Basic Training, held on Sunday at the National Police Academy, Maharajgunj, prime minister Balendra Shah said ethics, integrity and honesty must be treated as the first condition for professional success.
He instructed the graduating police inspectors to put what they learned in training into practice. He said they must maintain professional conduct and discipline and abide by the constitution, prevailing laws, rules, procedures and standards.
Prime Minister Shah said being accountable for one’s responsibilities is also important for professional success.
Noting that Nepal Police must fulfil the responsibilities of maintaining peace and security, investigating crimes and protecting citizens’ freedoms, he instructed them to work impartially, without falling under any undue influence.
“While carrying out this important responsibility, you must remain committed to your duty without being swayed by any kind of undue influence and without discrimination,” he said. “You must understand your role and the pace of the institution, and work in line with the sentiments of citizens.”
He also urged them to extend support and cooperation to the police organisation with full commitment. He said the use of information technology can make police work faster, more efficient, easier and more transparent. The proper use of technology, he said, would help investigate crimes on time and bring incidents under control.
Prime Minister Shah said the correct use of information technology is essential for impartial, fact-based, scientific and technology-oriented investigation of crimes. He said the leadership and training of the police organisation would play an important role in this.
He also said the government is committed to providing the resources needed for investigations and to fulfilling its responsibilities towards the police.
Seventy-nine police inspectors graduated at the ceremony. Prime Minister Shah congratulated the graduates and wished them success. He also expressed gratitude to the family members who encouraged them to join the police service.
