One person from Karnali Province has died in the flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26. The Province Police Office says the whereabouts of 194 people from Karnali who lost contact in the flood are still unknown.
According to police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh Rathaur, the man who died in the flood was from Salyan. As of noon on Tuesday, 270 people from Karnali had lost contact after the flood. Of them, 75 have since been reached.
Among the 194 still unreachable, the largest number, 81, are men from Jumla. This is followed by 54 from Salyan, 16 from Surkhet, and 11 from Mugu.
Police also say 9 people from Rukum West, 7 from Humla, 6 from Kalikot, 5 from Dailekh, 3 from Jajarkot, and 2 from Dolpa remain unreachable.
According to police, of the 194 still unreachable, 159 are men, 28 are women, and 7 are children. By district, this includes 40 men, 11 women, and 3 children from Salyan, and 15 men and 1 woman from Surkhet.
Police also report that 6 men, 4 women, and 1 child from Mugu, along with citizens from other districts, are still unreachable. Although 75 of those who lost contact in the flood have since been reached, the status of a large number of people is still unknown, making it necessary to intensify search and rescue efforts.
