A traditional rope crossing is being reinstalled in Nuwakot’s Battar after the Bhotekoshi flood destroyed roads, motorable bridges, suspension bridges and footpaths across the region.
The sudden flood that swept into the Trishuli River through Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi caused extensive loss of life and property and destroyed critical transport infrastructure.
With roads and bridges washed away and movement between settlements becoming difficult, authorities have begun reinstalling a tuin—a rope-based river crossing that had previously been removed as part of efforts to eliminate such crossings.
Installation work is currently underway in Battar, Nuwakot.
Local resident Durgaraj Pathak said the disaster had made it clear how essential the tuin had become in the absence of other means of crossing the river.
“Time is powerful. Until recently, we were advocating for the removal of tuins. Now, this very tuin has become the most essential thing for us, and we are reinstalling it,” he said.
The flood has severely damaged transport links in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, with numerous bridges swept away and road connections disrupted.
