Kathmandu, August 27
With significant loss of life and property following the flood in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi, an uneasy situation prevails across the country. More than 150 people have lost their lives, while hundreds of injured are receiving treatment.
The government is engaged in rescue and relief efforts, with more than 800 people still reported out of contact. The government has been appealing to citizens for help, sharing QR codes for various bank accounts.
Amid this situation, artists and celebrities have also been stepping forward with financial contributions. Madan Krishna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya (the “Maha Jodi), Anmol KC, Biraj Bhatt, and many other artists have donated to the government account via QR code.
They have been sharing bank account details and QR codes on social media, urging others to contribute what they can to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Hari Bansha Acharya wrote, “As the country weeps over the devastation of the flood, I sincerely request Nepalis both at home and abroad, regardless of political affiliation, to contribute what they can to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. From us (Maha Jodi), we are contributing Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000 each, to the fund.”
Anmol KC wrote, “Today’s disaster has reminded us once again that suffering doesn’t knock on anyone’s door before arriving. Today it’s someone else’s father, mother, brother or sister in pain; tomorrow, any one of us could be. I’ve contributed what I could from my side. Now I humbly request the same of you. It’s not about how big or small the amount is; what matters is the spirit of giving. Let’s not let the affected families feel alone in this difficult hour.”
Other film industry figures, musicians, and TV artists have also been contributing to the government fund.
