Kathmandu, August 27
The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has dismissed reports circulating about another major flood about to hit Rasuwa and Nuwakot, saying there is no official basis for such claims.
The division said its information and preliminary analysis so far do not indicate any credible possibility of another major flood in the areas.
It has urged the public to remain calm and not to follow unverified information or rumours.
Although rainfall is continuing in the affected areas and river levels could rise somewhat, the division said there is currently no indication of another destructive flood.
The division said that if there is any indication of a major flood entering Nepal, it will coordinate with security agencies stationed along the border and other concerned authorities and immediately inform the public.
In such an event, official early warnings will be disseminated through SMS and other available communication channels as soon as possible.
The division has urged people to rely only on official sources for flood-related information and take necessary precautions.
