The government has decided to provide free medical treatment to people injured in the Rasuwa floods, following an emergency Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal informed the House of Representatives that immediate free treatment would be provided to those injured in the disaster through the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene, the Nepal Army and government hospitals.
“The Cabinet has decided to arrange immediate and free medical treatment for people injured in the incident through the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene, the Nepal Army and government hospitals,” Khanal said.
The Cabinet also decided to arrange the immediate rescue and relocation to safe areas of people who have been injured or left stranded by the floods.
The Home Ministry and Defence Ministry have been tasked with coordinating the rescue operation, with both Nepal Army and private helicopters to be mobilised for the effort.
The massive flood that struck the Rasuwagadhi area on Wednesday morning has caused widespread damage.
After entering the Bhote Koshi River, floodwaters affected Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syaphrubesi, with reports of damage to settlements, markets, police facilities, roads and hydropower infrastructure.
Khanal briefed the House on the government’s response to the disaster during Wednesday’s parliamentary meeting.
