Nuwakot, August 26
Trishuli Bazar in Nuwakot was bustling with its usual morning activity on Wednesday. Residents had begun their daily routines as normal.
Within minutes, however, a sudden and powerful flood swept through the area, dramatically transforming the town.
The floodwaters from the Bhote Koshi River, which entered Nepal through Rasuwa from the Tibetan side, moved downstream into Nuwakot, causing extensive destruction along the Trishuli River corridor.
Around 60 houses in and around Trishuli Bazaar were reportedly swept away, while the nearby Devighat area was also affected. Two motorable bridges over the Trishuli River were also washed away.
The flood also damaged the Trishuli and Devighat hydropower projects and affected infrastructure linked to a 25-MW solar power project.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed as rescue and relief operations continue across the flood-affected areas.
